Food Stories: Conversation Card Deck

Food is more than just what’s on your plate—it’s memories, culture, and connection. Food Stories is a card deck of 72 food-themed questions designed to spark conversations about the meals that shaped us, the flavors that comfort us, and the stories we carry with every bite.

Created by Abby Houston, an artist, community builder, traveler, and food lover, Food Stories is steeped in a lifetime of sharing meals with strangers and loved ones across the globe. It draws from her experiences of three years solo traveling around the world; learning about different cultures through food; navigating a complex and illuminating relationship with food and body image; being raised in her family’s barbeque restaurant in the rolling green mountains of Appalachia; and continually finding her feet in the kitchen to make sense of the world.

This deck is a tribute to anyone who has ever expressed love through food or simply put a meal on the table. It's an invitation to soften, relate, and remember: it’s never just about the food.
